ÜberProject / UberProject

An ÜberProject, or UberProject, is an extremely large-scale, multi-volume project that will probably take years to pass completely through the DPC site. We could call these extremely large projects "megaprojects" but that term is very much over-used these days. "ÜberProject" is a term that was devised by DPers at DP-Int/US and as many DPC members have also worked on DP-Int and know what it means, we will use it also.

The ÜberProjects Forum is for hosting threads that discuss each of these huge projects as a whole. Individual issues/volumes within each ÜberProject will have its own individual Project Thread in the Projects Waiting, Projects Being Proofed or Formatted, Projects Being Post-Processed or Verified, or Archive of Posted Projects forum, as appropriate.

Wikipedia has a page that defines/describes the word "über". The word comes from German and is a cognate of both Latin super and Greek ύπερ (hyper), as well as English over (as in "overkill"). During the 2000s, über also became a synonym for super; e.g., überleet = superleet, generally with a slightly intensified meaning.

The following are excerpts taken from the ÜberProjects general forum on DP-Int "WELCOME to the UberProject Forum" (please note: you need to be a member of DP-Int/US in order to access this forum):

  • ... While each individual volume will continue to have its own default, automatically created discussion thread in the projects forum, such very large scale works as appear here will also have uberthreads ... for the discussion of questions and problems that transcend individual volumes and apply across the whole gigantic uberproject.
  • ... some of the most useful posts that apply generally to multi-volume works as a whole that are currently in individual volume project threads may be migrated to the appropriate uberthread ...
